TREADMILL

Have you noticed that your body has a certain way of doing things, I mean, when you acquire proficiency at something, the body sets about doing it in its own pace and rhythm. If you had a twin brother and both of you were asked to answer the same question with some chosen words as answers, you will find that both of you have different style of saying it. From your mannerism to how much space you provide between words, even the passion with which it is said.. all will be so unique. Now try saying the same answer without following the same mannerisms and body language. You will find that you are starting to stammer and grope for the answer. It will not be smooth and controlled as before. Have noticed the way you ride your bike, or drive your car? You have your own way of doing it.

It is the same with jogging too. Even when you set about to run at 5 km/hour, you will probably do it at 4.9km/hr for some time, then 5.1km/hr etc etc and it is your body that decides its own rhythm and pace , not your conscious mind. Continue Reading →

“How long will it take to get me a six pack?”

Nine out of ten people who come to my gymnasium pop up this question at the first chance they get.

A SIX PACK!!! Yes, sounds like a few decks of cards, but every young man and know what they are and want them real bad.  Continue Reading →

At my gymnasium, men and women work out in the same floor, though a row of equipments separate the space allocated for women from the men’s section. And also, there are two entrances to my gymnasium, one for women and the other for men.

There are sign boards which give clear direction, but some always miss the obvious and try out the wrong entrance.

Any man who makes the mistake of trying to reach my office table through the women’s entrance will never forget his experience while he passed by so many women, who are working out. Continue Reading →

THE TWO REPETITION CARDIO WORKOUT

Ever since I started weight training twenty seven years ago, I have wondered why I could jog non stop for five kilometers with a body weight above 75 kg and yet could not do leg press with 60 kg or leg curl with 30 kg for more than 1-2 minutes.

The same muscles involved in the action of jogging helps me with leg press and leg curl and yet something about the exercise made one aerobic and the other anaerobic.

After a few years of trying to find out the real reason behind this phenomenon, it had begun to obsess me in such a way that I knew if I did not come up with an answer, I could not do justice to so many of my students and friends who encouraged and supported me and to whom I always recommended aerobic weight training to lose weight and not jogging. ISOMETRIC EXERCISES FOR FAT LOSS

I am a body builder. I eat, drink and even breathe body building. I have done and will do everything in my power to make body building the most popular sport of all. But, only about 10% of those who work out in a gym are body builders or body building fans. They all love a shapely physique, though, yet no one wants to get as big as a body builder.

But there is a sport that offers the kind of physique that is appealing to all. I have to hear anyone say anything against it. It is the physique of a gymnast. He is not too big like a body builder, but he could be termed a body builder in a small package. What do a body builder and a gymnast have in common, that is appealing to everyone. IMPORTANCE OF SALT

It seems that Kerala, the spices capital of the world, consumes so much salt and still does not think it worth your salt to know what salt does to your body.

I have seen people gulp down gallons of water, during and after exercise, not knowing the element of danger present in not bothering to replace the salt lost through sweat.  There are marathoners and triathletes who have died of hyponatremia (low blood sodium) because of high intake of water without adequate salt replenishment. AN EXERCISE ROUTINE WOMEN CAN DO AT HOME

Most women hate weight training and think it will make them muscular like a man.  Few understand that every exercise is a form of weight training.  When you jog, you are trying to shift your body weight from leg to the other, with each leg craning to carry the body weight forward.   When you do cycling, you are trying to push your body weight which is atop a cycle, forward.  The same when you jog.  With weight training, things actually become a little easy, because you can choose the weight that should be used for every single muscle.   In fact, weight training offers the most scientifically designed method to get into shape.   Continue Reading →
